FYI

On December 4th, 2008 joe from ‘Muigwithania 2.0’ commented on our post ‘Kikuyusforchange 2008/2009 & we feel that we need to highlight both his comments & our response as a main post, to assist other visitors to our site who might be wondering ‘Who is Kikuyusforchange & What is their Agenda’.

Joe:

Some ideas are good ideas but they need legitimacy to be bought buy the people . Your organization must first sell its neutrality before people can buy into your good ideas. Who appointed this so called delegates and why all the associations with ODM. Central Kenya initiative by any other name is still an ODM project no matter how well you hide it. Be neutral first people will listen. What people don’t like are hidden agendas .Good ideas poor marketing .You need to re brand yourselves Orange doesn’t go down well .

Secretariat:

We hear you Mr Joe,

But remember the Central Kenya Initiative was started by Tony Gachoka & Charles Njonjo, and they had their reasons for it, kikuyusforchange leadership has never even met the two gentlemen. (Infact if you ever get to attend any of our events you will be surprised at how many former PNU proponents we have in our group). It is also a fact that our community leadership does not want anyone from within Central talking about change, (thus the ‘Martha Karua’ bashing campaign that is in top gear) while ODM, whatever their reasons, are willing to embrace & take part in such discussions.

The questions you need to ask yourself are (1)’if our political leaders had learnt the obvious lessons of the referendum defeat and applied those lessons, would the PEV have happened as it did?’ (2) ‘why are our leaders so fixated on controlling who we relate with while they themselves can relate with Raila, Ruto, Musalia or anyone else in the ODM brigade, and we do not think they can betray us or defect to ODM? Why is it that immediately other kikuyus do it these leaders quickly shout out that these kikuyus cannot be trusted-kwani there are kikuyus & kikuyus? what are they afraid will corrupt us, ODM personalities or the ODM message? (3) what is democracy if you cannot disagree with certain leaders from Central or their ideologies without being branded ‘orange’? (4) If it is true that you get the leaders you deserve, do we deserve our current leadership?  (5) Why does the ODM message resonate so strongly with the ordinary kikuyu?

Happy New Year & look forward to hearing from you again soon.

  1. Like I said you have good ideas and We need a serious change in our leadership. What we don’t want and I think I speak for many is change cloaked in ODM colours(Orange and the Blood of our people)ODM and PNU are the same.Same cast different scripts. Former KANU Nyayoist pretending to care for you and me. (thats why like you pointed out they hob nob together while preaching division to supporters). We can not replace bad PNU leadership with Bad pro ODM leadership and call that change.

We don’t live in a political vacuum. The elections ‘may’ have been stolen but it was Orange pangas that did the killing(if change must come let it come through those with clean hands). We can’t pretend and sweep these and other facts under the carpet.Yes Kikuyus need to change but other groups need to change too.Kikuyusforchange comes across as an apologetic movement(my personal view)If we are to move and build a better future We as a people can not continue to be scape goats for other peoples Inadequacies. We have to stand in our own right and elect progressive leaders who are not apologetic of who we are as a people .

Kibaki has failed and I think Mugwithania 2.0 has long articulated that fact. We need change but it must be meaningful change that is not tied to those who have bloodied our own people.(PNU or ODM).

If you can assure the public that you are not pro PNU or pro ODM and are not Kikuyu apologists then the people will listen

    Joe

  2. I assure you that kikuyusforchange are not apologetics, neither are we pro PNU or pro ODM. We are actually young people (average age is 34) who have young families, and who have realized that we have alot more to loose than our leaders, if we let them lead us wrong. Unfortunately, we are not willing to groom our own ‘Obama’ so our options on who to deal with are limited. That makes us very dangerous people because we will talk to anybody who thinks, or makes us think, he can make the change we want happen. But we are also smart fellows who cannot be taken for a ride, at least not for long.

Lets be honest, alot of young kikuyus would rather do business than engage in politices-thats what most of our members were doing until they woke up & their previously ‘friendly’ neighboours from tribe X wanted to cut and/or burn their children-then we all wondered ‘how did we get here?’ & ‘how do we make sure we do not get here again?’.

So kikuyusforchange was born, and we are putting in our 2-cents worth of ideas, and hoping that guys like you will reach across together with us, and do our little part of creating a platform for the right kind of leaders to stand up, not just within Central, but across the country.

They say that what is needed for evil to succeed is for good people to keep silent, we all assume we cannot be the good ones, but at kikuyusforchange we will shout until guys with voices louder than ours can take up the challenge-are you one of those we are looking for?

  3. bwana joe….we’ve had hundreds of hours the last year, deliberating on the whole myriad of issues that have brought the country to its knees. We have had the courtesy of countless venom spitting cobras like yourself who sadly spit from their eggs.Tafadhali break from the shells of prejudice and retrogressive protectionism..ask for clarity in your thoughts from above.Remove the block of wood from your eyes before you offer to get out specks from others. You however have the right to deepen your roots in the shallow stream mud, but when the storm comes, remembers it follows the stream’s path..prepare.
kindly inform this humble citizen of what muiguithania 2.o stands for and if that gives it the moral authority to decide who ‘your people’ talk to and who not to share a meal with..I welcome heartily your further correspondence on this…remember you are the change you want!

  4. @secretariat: I hear what you are saying and i for one will be less judgmental and more open minded towards Kikuyusforchange as a group. We definitely agree on the outcome maybe its the path to that change and the mechanism/instruments that we differ on.

@Malik Mureu.Muigwithania 2.0 is an open book.It speaks for itself. Our stats and readership speak for themselves.Mud slinging from people who refuse to understand and dont want to understand what we are saying will always come.Spiting cobras, prejudice, retrogressive even protectionism are not new insults. We know who we are do you know who you are?

“The first resistance to social change is to say it’s not necessary” -Gloria Steinem.

Malik We promote thinking.I think thats should answer all your questions

  5. Thanks Joe.
Hope we can do something together that makes our mutual concerns a thing of the past. Keep well & all the best in what you are doing.

  6. Bw. Joe..you sound like a great mind..my vocabulary might offend a weak heart, but that is not amongst my intentions. If only you care to look past the literal images conjured by the words..therein you shall find truth. We travel on the same great revolutionary highway…lets focus on what needs to be done..not so much who takes the lead.May Allah grant us endless favour

  7. To: Joe & the Secretariat

You both have very valid points and an ongoing exchange of ideas is very healthy..so my question to you both is…what is the next joint effort towards our common goal

  8. Secretarist….do you censor comments, if so, why

  9. No Waithira, we do not censor comments, what we do is moderate them to ensure that they meet basic decorum & avoid insulting language, etc. Fortunately, we have not had such material so far.

  10. I just found this site by accident but am surprised to see that what happened at home after elections has now found a new term PEV it sure beats what we experienced at that time
We as a people should rethink our unity because at that crucial time when we who were in the midst of the ‘quote’ ‘PEV’ were wondering what would happen next I was surprised that life in central was going on as usual in fact some people had new year celebrations.
The founding fathers of our nation had the right idea from the begining first put your house to order before you involve anyone else thus the KCA before the KAU and later KANU
Since we have reversed to the time when we as a people no longer have equal rights like the rest of the communities. Every election has to a field day to kill our people and to reverse then to point zero. This has been happeing too often for it to be a coincidence. But hey the new motto of our people is EVERYONE FOR HIMSELF AND GOD FOR US ALL. But I have got a thought for you before the in the 90s’ this was a Molo problem we saw where it reached in 2007, what happens when we have all been pushed into one area
REMEMBER THE LESOTHO COMMENT MADE DURING THE SO CALLED MASS DEMONSTRATIONS
